What viability really tells you
A high cell count with low viability means fewer live, functional cells. Viability should be measured and reported on the certificate of analysis.

Common viability testing methods
Trypan blue exclusion
A common dye-based method used with a hemocytometer or automated counter.
Flow cytometry
Uses fluorescent stains and instruments to measure live/dead cell ratios more precisely.
Automated counters
Image-based or impedance-based counters provide reproducible viability readings.
